How to buy and sell treasury bills, bonds and STRIPS

This video demonstrates how to buy and sell fixed income securities, including treasury bills, bonds and STRIPS. Learn how to search and filter on criteria to find the security you want to buy or sell, then select your account and place your order.

  1. Step oneSign in to your account on a computer
  2. Step two Choose “Trade”, then “Fixed Income”
  3. Step three FAQs and helpful definitions are available if you have questions
  4. Step four To find treasuries, you can search by CUSIP number or choose “Treasury”
  5. Step five Set filters like maturity date, or filter by type; choose “See results”
  6. Step six You can sort by maturity date, yield to maturity, coupon and more
  7. Step seven Choose “Trade” to buy or sell, or pick a security for more information
  8. Step eight You’ll find details about the treasury, like the first and last coupon date
  9. Step nine Choose “Trade” to proceed, then choose an account
  10. Step ten Choose “Buy” or “Sell” and put in a quantity, then choose “Get price” (note the minimum quantity and increment)
  11. Step eleven Review the estimated order value and choose “Preview”
  12. Step twelve Review the details and choose “Place order”; note that fixed income orders are fill or kill, which means they fill completely or are canceled and cannot be modified once placed
